“Imagine a King, who fights his own battle” is one phrase on my mind since long and it always echoes inside me whenever the “Performance Appraisal Form” at year end is being signed by the staff of an organization and that includes Banks, Companies and all such service oriented organization where the salary raise is based upon the performance of the employee.
But when the year ends and that one form is placed in front of the staff to sign and agree about his performance, this is where the “King fighting his own battle” part comes into effect. It’s a trend or a norm that no matter how good the performance of the junior staff is, he’ll never has his appraisal better than his immediate or all the bosses working above him and no matter how below average the personal performance of the senior staff is, they’ll always be rewarded in every best way possible, of course better than his subordinate.
We’re living in such an economic condition where most of the working class is living from hand to mouth and the administrators above them are enjoying the luxuries of life.
When the time for increment in salary comes, the administrators get the biggest share of the pie whereas the workers are awarded only by the share which is left behind. Whether anyone agrees with my view or not, it’s the junior level officers who interacts with the customers and ensures that the best possible services are provided, growth is made, revenues are generated and hence the targets assigned by the administrators are achieved.
My question to the higher management of all such organizations is: WHY ONLY THE JOCKEY IS AWARDED WITH THE TROPHIES AND MEDALS WHEN IT’S THE HORSE THAT ACTUALLY RUNS TO THE BEST OF HIS ABILITIES; NO DOUBT JOCKEY MAKES HIM RUN!
I don’t negate the talents of the administrators who are capable of building up such huge empires of businesses and organizations. I just want all the high ups to realize that we’re living in such economic downfall that for the working class staff i.e. junior staff; your word of appreciation, your letters of motivation to the staff or even the certificate of Best Employee of the Year holds ZERO PURCHASING VALUE. If you want to reward the efforts of your junior staff properly, award them in proper “monetary terms” enabling them to earn bread and butter for their families with no trouble so they have a less stressed life.
When it comes to growth and target meetings of a customer oriented organization, mostly it’s the junior level staff that has to make all sweats for target achievements but at the yearend…”again, the jockey gets away with the trophy” and the horse is placed back in his stable. With increased stretch of the racing track, with the restricted time but with fewer or even same meal fed to the horse, you cannot expect him to win the races for you.
After all, the King who cannot take care of the needs of his army, specially the “Vanguard Soldiers”; he must not expect from them to win the war for him, easily…
