It is hard to know sometimes how our life has improved until we halt for a moment and look at how different it is from ten or even five years ago. In recent ages social media, likely more than anything else, has significantly squeezed most of our daily lives. Imagining the global conversation that has developed over the past few years because of tools like Facebook, Twitter & other social media sites might have been unimaginable for most people at the beginning of this decade. But social media communication tools have profoundly changed our lives and how we interact with one another and the world around us. Here are the top areas that social media has affected in our daily lives.
Social media has fetched about a profound change in the way in which we interact with our friends, relatives, colleagues & others, as well as the world at large. Here are few of the ways through which social media dominates our lives today.
Social media is helping to forge a new era in business transparency and engagement, creating both new challenges and opportunities. Gone are the days when companies could rely on carefully crafted press releases or flashy ad campaigns to communicate with their customers, often in an attempt to convince people that their products are the best in the field. In the age of social media, the rules have changed and people today demand a more honest and direct relationship with the companies with which they do business in more positive manner. Like all Political parties always rely on social media and their all sort of campaign having a huge impact of social media.
Most people prefer to get their daily share of news by looking at stories and updates posted by friends on Facebook or from people they follow on Twitter, instead of reading news websites. As we get news from the social media, we know the person recommending it, which makes news social too. Social media has transformed the way we stay in touch with friends.
To understand the influence of social media you need to go beyond mentions and take two more steps – ascertain how those mentions translate into reach and figure out how the impact in the social media world leads to changes in perception and behavior in the real world” – Stephen Shakespeare
The more we use social media, the more it creeps into our realization and unintentionally impacts the decisions we make in our daily life It is easier than ever to begin and launch a business today, it’s all about thanks to social media. social media gives people who have time, but little money for advertising, the chance to engage with others and promote their business. All they can do it is to initiate it without having significant advertisement cash amount in hand.
Social media platforms have opened more paths to communicate with others through various features such as profiles, feeds and groups. Tablets and smartphones, on the other hand, have made information instant and accessible from everywhere. While get-togethers in clubs are still part of society, online group meetings are easier to organize and attend. Moreover, social media is now being progressively used to search as well as maintain both old and new friendships. However people have more means and ways to stay connected with others, this also leading to weaker social ties as social media displaces the need for face-to-face communication significantly. With access to such platforms, people are not as inclined to send emails or call up friends. Instead, messaging and chatting on social networking websites to stay in touch has become a norm.
Today, due to social media inspiration, culture of love marriages get popular, now children select their life partners by their own choice. As a result, many of marriages cant successful. Marriage ceremonies which showing on today’s media especially in dramas are not in accordance with our Islamic traditions. They are influence by Indian culture by showing attractive marriage traditions, expensive dresses, jewelry, stage decoration, plying Indian songs and dances during the marriage ceremony. We all agreed that marriage functions in high class are following the same patterns shown in dramas, whereas Islam teaches simplicity. So it is a time to think that where we stand?
Our media is exhibiting foreign and Indian films without any substantial censorship policy. Many Pakistani private channels are telecasting foreign and Indian films, festivals & shows. Now our channels start producing and arranging such musical and dance shows by following their footsteps in which boys and girls dance together and wearing non ethical dresses. Our youth love to share these sorts of things through social media. Shortly, social networking addict could be considered someone who uses social media excessively to a point where it interferes with other daily activities. In these sort of above limitations our generation is going towards wrong direction but still I believe that we need to educate our youth for being a successful and constructive impact in our daily lives.
Social media also have some positive points, as it helps people in online communities and enhance communication. Social media has been used in many ways in this era as it is the era of technology. Youth is learning fast on social media and using it for productive purpose also. One can educate people about the society, good and bad, values, ethics and culture, if its use is preceded in a positive way. Sometimes, Students use these social media tools in their studies also. They talk about their lectures, subjects or a single topic of their syllabus with their campus community groups. Use of social media affects students so much, not only their studies but also their relations. A large number students log on to one of their favorite social media website so many times on daily basis. Some if the students keep using cell phones for texting and instant messaging. In these days students are constantly checking Facebook status updates or talking about people’s profiles on Facebook, for hours on end and also discussing it on groups for a long time.
For youth and students, it is not much beneficial as social media websites are not much safe and students who use social media get so much addicted to it and they forget about their other activities and responsibilities. Too much use of social media websites is risky for the students as they lose their private data and information, they upload on the websites. Not only on internet but also when students meet each other in their educational institutes, they keep discussing about their activities and data uploaded by them and their friends. World is moving and developing fast, use of social media is not much bad, but it is worse, when used in a negative way. For parents it is advised that, while students are using social networking site or any other social media tool, it is the responsibility of parents to watch over them and tell them how to use it in a good way. Do not make so much hard and fast rules for children, that they begin to feel being caged. Proper guidance and counseling will works to teach students, children and youth the best and positive use of social media.
